A writing dilemma

So I'm working on my not_primetime fic and I've run into a problem, which is: I heartily dislike epithets in writing, but everyone is the same gender and it's awkward using names all the time. (And the first draft isn't even finished; but my brain is all: "If we fix this now, it'll be easier to work on later as it will suck less.")

I'm sure the answer is "Compromise on your hatred of epithets, you goofus," but I'm not ready to call total amnesty on it. *ponders*

1. My assignment for not_primetime is exciting and a little scary (but mostly exciting). I've recently started assuming competence at things even if I don't feel that way, so I can write this story competently, damn it.

2. sqbr drew this AMAZING and ADORABLE picture for me! (Defense and Prosecution Homestuck, Jade & Terezei)

3. glass_icarus is done with school! To celebrate, she is taking drabble and icon prompts. There is an ADORABLE Korra & Meelo & Jinora ficlet so far.

4. I saw The Avengers today!

a) Sometimes when I watch plays or movies--especially movies with PG-13-rated violence, without a lot of helpful-to-me cues like blood or various disgusting noises--my mother says I look away from the screen. She's kind of concerned about this: today she asked, "So [Avengers] is not a good movie for you, then?" And I don't think she should be concerned! Especially because I want the Black Widow to get her own movie.

kanata is running Transfic Mini Fest 3, a commentfic meme celebrating trans,* nonbinary and intersex characters, canonical or not. I played last year, and it was much fun.

terabient is running a 3 Weeks for DW Video Game Drabblefest! Someone has already left a Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 prompt, and has yet to think of any good Disgaea prompts. She's also facepalming that she isn't further in Final Fantasy XIII, and is about to break out some BlazBlue for research.

ETA: Ahahaha I suck so hard at BlazBlue it is not even funny. Since Vriska is right and real gamers cheat, I should probably YouTube the plot.

You know how when you're really craving, say, pizza, but you're trying not to eat pizza (for whatever reason), so you eat other things but then still end up eating pizza anyway? Yeah, so that happened to me today. Because even though I plan this for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, and even though KNOW three_weeks_for_dw is a month away, I REALLY want characters with disabilities doing awesome things today.

1. I have now seen the first two episodes of Korra! KORRRRAAAAA I ♥ YOU!

2. So, I should REALLY~~get over my fear of Professor Stein~~ finish the Disability in Soul Eater series for month_of_meta, not least of all because I would like to write some bonus!meta about Black★Star. After all, he (skip) possesses the Madness of Power

Some of the block for me is that a lot of disabled characters in the cast are portrayed just as, well, members of the cast! So I feel like I'd be saying the same things over and over again. Oddly, maybe writing about Stein in conjunction with Marie (who actually breaks EVERYTHING) will make it less scary. Another possibility is to start "backwards"-for-me and look for pictures/manga panels first, a la a picspam.

No poll this time, but if you'd like to offer encouragement/ drabbles/ pictures / ♥/ KORRRRRAAAA, please do :D

One of my tropes for 10tropes is Crack Fic, but it turns out that I don't really know what counts as crack? I mean, I write in fandoms where half the cast transforms into something else, any magical doodad necessary for the plot will just appear--and so will one of the characters--and where EVERYONE has decided to go to the moon. (Which bleeds.)

So, because polls are fun, I thought I'd ask you for your opinion!

Y'ALL! The lovely lizcommotion sent me a package FULL of Ranma 1/2 goodies, because she is ~~moving~~ AWESOME! So now I have an adorable P-chan pin, a sparkly trading card and, like, FOUR soundtrack CDs! They'll come in handy for the queer_fest fic, let me tell you. In fact, I've already put the CDs to good use: I listened to them while playing the game I'm supposed to be reviewing, and while writing ridiculous AtLA/Ranma 1/2 crossover drabbles.
