thingswithwings asked me about five of my icons! Ahem.





Iroh and Toph Bei Fong from Avatar: The Last Airbender! It's made by eta: frith_in_thorns, actually stultiloquentia from a drawing by Rufftoon. You can find it (and several other awesome ATLA icons) here. As soon as I found this one, I knew I had to have it. These two together make me so happy. My standard squee!/yay!/congratulations! icon.



Another one by frith_in_thorns. While there are many icons of Toph doing awesome things (I have and made some), I like this awkward, vulnerable scene between her and Appa. Not least of all because Appa looks like he's trying to relate to/comfort her...in his Sky Bison way.



Ryoga Hibiki (left) and girl!Ranma Saotome (right), from Ranma 1/2, made by me. I love how the scene captures the complexity of their rivalry, especially out of context. (The context: Ryoga is about to "help" Ranma by giving him the Training from Hell in martial arts gymnastics.) I love how Ryoga has his hand on Ranma's shoulder, his sinister-yet-possibly-turned-on expression (without the context--though he may be turned on by the prospect of doing horrible things to Ranma), and Ranma's "You are annoying and I don't trust you" face.



Mai, also from Avatar: The Last Airbender. This was made by eruthros, and I love Mai's expression: the dangerous, almost stealthy way she's looking back. ("Stealthy" seems odd to say, since she's pretty visible, but still).



Tomie Kawakami (icon cropped/resized by me)! She's from the horror manga Tomie by Junji Ito. I have a fierce yet ambivalent love affair with body horror and the kinds of things it says about non-standard bodies and disability. But, ambivalent because, you know, body horror. (I should write about this sometime, possibly as an ongoing series). One of my favorite things about the manga is the contrast between Tomie's beauty and her monstrousness, and I especially love how it plays out when people try to capture her image in photographs or paintings. A very NSFW picspam about Tomie is here. (Includes violence, gore, vore, dub/noncon teacher/student relationship and general grotesquerie).

oooooh, that's so interesting about body horror - I'd be fascinated to read a post/series by you on that subject.

The more I think about it, the more I want to do it and the more ambitious the project gets. (All kinds of body horror from as many sources and cultures as possible! MOAR BODY HORROR FOR ME.)

1. Go to http://esmenet.dreamwidth.org/icons You can find this under "Create"-->"Upload Icons"--> ["View all uploaded icons"]. If you click on an icon, you'll see a link in your browser. Using the links [personal profile] thingswithwings left you works too, of course.

2a. If you're writing in DW's Rich Text mode, click on the picture of the mountain with the yellow sky. It'll ask for a URL. Put your icon's link in.

2b. In "HTML mode," on the far left it says: "Insert image." Clicking on it will ask you for a link.

3. YOU WIN FOREVER.
