A milestone in my knowledge* of Japanese
Oct. 6th, 2012 12:37 pmWhile watching Utena, I heard first-person pronouns for the first time ever! Utena uses "boku;" (warning: link goes to TVTropes) Anthy is using "watashi."
ETA: Miki says "boku," too! And I think Kanae said "atashi." AND while I've heard "hentai" to mean "pervert" (I watch Ranma 1/2, OK?), I've heard it used for something closer to "weird" twice! After Utena's first duel she says her day is "hentai," and Miki uses it later when saying that something he said "didn't come out right."
I'm hearing "kimi" (a second-person pronoun), too.
*"Knowledge" is...a strong word. I learned my very first Japanese word from playing 75 hours of La Pucelle: Tactics. The word was "baka" ("idiot,") and I only learned it because the player character uses it ALL THE TIME.

Date: 2012-10-07 01:36 am (UTC)"La Pucelle: Tactics" is very tongue-in-cheek: characters have names like "Father Salade" and "Culotte," and the "hero" is selfish and obnoxious and calls people "idiot" all the time.
