Someone I know once said that Utena had to deconstruct itself as it went because there hadn't been anything like it before (and it clearly needed to deconstruct something). *g* I'm in the camp that thinks Princess Tutu is its clear successor, but while I adore Tutu, Utena remains my very favorite.

From what I know of Tutu, it should be right up my alley. Among other things (the meta about storytelling aspect), I love non-human characters adjusting to having to act human (The Little Mermaid, Blair from Soul Eater, who is a cat that talks/takes human form now and then), even if that aspect isn't explored in canon v. much.

(Also, I accidentally spoiled myself for Utena pretty badly, and OMG. Azula and Anthy need to meet, I'm just saying.)
