Someone I know once said that Utena had to deconstruct itself as it went because there hadn't been anything like it before (and it clearly needed to deconstruct something). *g* I'm in the camp that thinks Princess Tutu is its clear successor, but while I adore Tutu, Utena remains my very favorite.
