Would be a meme, except I made it up
Sep. 4th, 2011 01:13 pmGive me a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll tell you what video game(s) they like/have Opinions about. Characters from universes where video games don't exist are welcome--hanging out in my head means that they will have opinions on the matter.

Date: 2011-09-05 12:50 am (UTC)Azula has much love for Koei's Dynasty Warriors. The one I have is Dynasty Warriors Advance, but I'm sure she'd love the whole series.
Three minutes of Dynasty Warriors Advance, not played by me:

She also likes the Disgaea series, which are strategy games about a bunch of demons and angels. It doesn't hurt that the main character in the first couple is a new adolescent-y overlord who's just taken over for his dad, isn't exactly competent, and at least two women keep trying to assassinate him. (She wants me to get the ending where one of them does assassinate him, but I haven't done it yet).
One of the reasons the Disgaea series is famous is that characters can level up to 9999. Also another reason Azula likes the series, for reasons seen in this vid. (Again, not played by me):

Her favorite so far is Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, because the protagonist reminds her of herself, what with being a prodigy and all. She likes the fourth one the least, probably for the same reason. Valvatorez used to be a tyrant, but by the time we meet him, he's lost all his powers and is a Prinny Instructor, which is sort of like the Netherworld equivalent of cleaning toilets. Worst of all, he doesn't seem to mind. Nor does she like all this "demons opening their hearts and falling in love with nice girls" business. Though she didn't mind when Laharl did it since he was kind of like Zuko anyway.
She doesn't really like Batman: Arkham Asylum, but will sometimes tell me interesting things if I play it, since the Joker sounds an awful lot like her father.
Mai likes Clock Tower 3, possibly as a guilty pleasure. It's a survival horror game (emphasis on "survival") where your job is to find clues, keep hidden from monsters and avoid panicking. (If you panic, you lose your cover, are harder to control and the monsters can get you). You have no real weapons; the only time you can fight back is during the boss fights, with holy water that turns into a longbow. And to charge up your shots, you have to stand still and can't adjust your aim. It's a game about stealth, emotional control, and being a total badass without having any superpowers. Which somehow makes you even more badass.
Ty Lee is fond of the Touhou Project, a series of danmaku ("bullet hell") shooters with an all-female cast of humans, youkai and other fantastic creatures. (It is a HUGE cast). Aside from its difficulty and being made by basically ONE person called ZUN, Touhou is known for "defeat means friendship," even across different games in the series. (One of the long-running player characters, Marisa Kirisame, started out as a minion of one of the bosses.) Ty Lee wishes there were a few boys, though.
A seven-minute boss fight from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil--not played by me AT ALL:

I'll have to think more about Tomie--she's a good one! And Mai and Ty Lee might have more answers for you.
