Assignment the Second: People fired on account of jerkassery. People hired back because the story sucks without them. (No apologies for their behavior or promises to do better). People fired again because their presence in the story is the very definition of "crack." Lather, rinse, repeat ad infinitum. The sinking realization that a character I love dearly is just not going to be awesome in this particular situation, because that's just not what they would do. (Damn you, Stephen King!) Needing to work this mess out verbally with another person and trying to explain it to my mother, who has never seen ATLA and interrupted me every two minutes with, "Start at the end! CSI does that!" "How old are these people you're wriiting for?" "Wait--you're writing stories about a TV show? Why?" "Are you sure a kid's show would put all this in there?" "Why do you always [do that thing I always do]? WHYYYYY?"
The thing is, I love Assignment the Second. I want to write it with all my heeeart. And I don't think everyone is being an irredeemable jerkass--I'm just not confident in my ability to write them. Or my ability to not break everything.
