It's Three Weeks for Dreamwidth!
Welcome to the third People with Disabilities (PWD) Being Awesome Commentwork Fest!
How it works:
This is a multi-fandom fest celebrating characters with disabilities doing awesome things! Prompts can be from any fandom, and can feature canonically, non-canonically or supernaturally disabled characters. (Are Remus Lupin and Sookie Stackhouse awesome PWD? You betcha!) You can interpret an undiagnosed character as a PWD, or reimagine someone as one. Don't let the fest's name throw you. All disabled characters can come play, even if they aren't people. Also, no restrictions on rating!
But what do you mean by "being awesome?"
I mean a lot of things: Saving the world, going on adventures, facing off against ableism, hanging out with friends, struggling with changes in identity. A prompt/story doesn't have to be happy to be awesome.
What fanworks are welcome?
Fic, art, podfic, fanmixes, poetry, vids...anything you can think of!
Prompting:
Prompts should have the following format:
Fandom, character/paring, prompt.
For crossovers: Fandom 1/Fandom 2, character/pairing, prompt.
You can leave as many prompts as you like. Also, please use respectful language in your prompt.
Filling Prompts:
If you fill a prompt, either post your story as a reply to the prompt-comment, or post a link to your story as a reply to the prompt if it's hosted elsewhere--say, your journal. (And since this fest is in celebration of
three_weeks_for_dw, please post your work only on Dreamwidth for three weeks from the date you posted.) Also, prompts may be filled more than once. You may also fill your own prompts, if you wish.
Warnings:
You may use "Choose Not to Warn" or "No Warnings Apply," or use warnings/content notes for any triggering material.
If you'd like to bait your host...
Prompts in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ranma 1/2 and Soul Eater are the best way to do this. Just sayin'.
Are signal-boosts welcome?
YES!

The sharp ping of bullets against armor echoed in her left ear under the headset. "Soonest on the intel, please!" Tim didn't tend to shout, per se, but his voice was louder than usual and high-pitched with stress. A rattling sound followed by a thud; that was probably him rappelling off a roof. Babs catalogued the sounds with only a fraction of her attention as her fingers flew over the keys, trying to keep a sense of the scene more complete than the glimpses her eyes in the sky gave her. She heard a meaty slap made tinny through her earpiece. "O, now, please."
A schematic flashed onto her screen. "81 Curtis, three streets west and seven north of your last known position," she said. Babs looked at tax, utility, public meeting data that scrolled by lightning fast in her peripheral view. Those rooms appeared on instagram, these didn't have enough of a power draw, the whole seventh floor was a Wayne Enterprises R&D space... "The generator could only be on the third floor, fifth door to the left from the fire stairs.
Robin grunted and cut the connection.
In Barbara's memory, a young man dropped his bag heavily by the Gotham City Library reference desk.
"I need stuff for a paper about, um." He checked the crumpled printout in his hand. "The West Indian influence in the development of British maps."
Barbara swiveled the monitor of her rickety old computer to face the boy, and entered the indexing and abstracting databases Gotham Library could only afford because of the generosity of Wayne Enterprises. "You're in luck," she said, as the query results scrolled by. "We have an excellent interlibrary loan agreement with the Metropolis Library Network, and they have a full collection of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London and even -- oh, look -- Transaction of the Institute of British Geographers. There's some perfect primary sources for your research there; we should be able to order and have what you need in by early next week."
"Yeah, no," said the boy, leaning in and giving her a good whiff of eau d'teenager. "Paper's due tomorrow morning."
"Ah." Babs took a deep breath. "What references have you looked at so far?"
The question was pro forma. She expected the bemused answer the boy gave: "I'm just getting started."
Finally he had the boy sitting at a table in the reference area with the selection of mostly-secondary sources which was all the Gotham library could provide. She'd insisted he watch as she did the searches for his materials but she doubted he was paying enough attention to replicate the process for his next paper.
Her headset snapped back the crackling life with Robin's hoarse whispers. "I need instructions for rigging the explosion of 200 kW three-phase Triton diesel, model# MJ200, with enough percussive force to take up the floor but not enough to bring down the building, stat."
Babs sighed, her fingers flying over the keys.

Date: 2013-04-23 05:58 pm (UTC)ATLA: Dancing and Idiots [Toph]
Date: 2013-04-24 01:15 am (UTC)Her friends have corralled her onto the dance floor, Katara giggling into her ear and Sokka saying it was going to be fun - the liquor on their breaths the definite culprit of their temporary states of idiocy. Aang was somewhere too, presumably being his usual twinkles-toe self and either goofing around near the punch bowl or showing off for the ladies. Toph couldn't even imagine where Zuko might be - there was too much 'fun' going on for him to be anywhere nearby.
"Come on, dance!" Sokka laughs, slapping her back.
She spins around, prepared to punch him in the stomach just for being so annoyingly stupid and happy in his intoxicated state, but a drum is struck, then another. The vibrations stun her senses just enough to lose track of Sokka's position. It's also long enough for him to stumble off. Toph can hear him trying to pick up a woman a short distance away, but a resounding slap echoes just enough over the now rising beat of drums to make you smile, just a little.
Some kind of woodwind -- a flute, she thinks -- begins to mingle with the now steady pounding beat of drums. 'Okay, you can do this, even if you don't do this often,' Toph tells herself. Standing still, she feels the music through the vibrations in the ground, especially the drums, and soaks them in -- then she moves. Someone taught her to dance as a child, a faceless tutor, one of many her parents forced upon her as a child. The only lesson she had really needed was to simply feel the music, which she does, literally. As she allows her limbs to flow with the beating of drums, Toph pictures her bending moves; makes the dance a training session, sans the earthbending. Maybe she's trying too hard, or not hard enough, but without a partner, it's difficult to gauge this beyond sensing the rising heartbeats of the others around her and listening to their drunken laughs as they move with each other.
She smells the forever slightly salty scent of one of the Southern Water Tribe siblings before they approach; feels the warmth of their hands on her hips through her outfit. When a drunken nose nuzzles the back of her neck, Toph lets herself just go with the rhythm of it all.
Maybe drunken idiots and dancing isn't all bad.
