Another gift exchange. Cue panicking

Of course, since I'm me, I am also PANICKED, because I've never written in my assigned fandom before (which, you know, I offered, so am not complaining), and whatever I write will totally suck. No, really, I have evidence: I read the few stories in the fandom and, OMG, they are AWESOME. *runs and hides*
It is bad, you guys. I mean, I went to the coffee shop yesterday to work on my assignment and ended up writing something else entirely.
Usually if I'm stuck on writing something I talk to my mom about it, but when it comes to fannish things she is...distinctly unhelpful. Forwhite_lotus's Lunar New Year gift exchange I tried to talk to her about the Azula-centric thing I was working on, and she said, "Why don't you behead her?" (Okay, I like me some Tales from the Crypt morality, but HOLY NOT IN THE SPIRIT OF THE REQUEST, BATMAN).
It would be really helpful if I could talk to someone about the fandom, but I don't know how, as it is a secret. Some of the problem is that there are things I love writing that aren't really applicable to the fandom. Also (and perhaps most of all), my brain is balking at OMG 1000-word minimum. It's so bad, I am tempted to make the other type of fanwork requested, even though I have never made one of those before in my entire life.
And then I remember that we both seem to like some of the same things about the source, and if I wrote something that I like, there's a good chance the giftee would like it too.
Also! If you'd like to leave drabble/fic prompts of any kind, feel free.

Date: 2011-10-28 08:32 pm (UTC)I bet the DA mods would be willing to be a go-between if you e-mailed them & said, hey, I need a beta/cheerleading for fandom X. Or... I dunno. I don't want to put more work on them! Maybe there could be a post in the comm w/anonymous comments enabled where people could say, "I need to talk to someone in fandom x," & then ppl comment & you could PM them (assuming someone besides your recipient replies).
If it were me I might poke around my network to see if anyone I know is in the fandom, or I guess also search the interests to see who's listed it in their DW profile?
