What sort of fannish party should I have?

February 7 is my birthday. I would like to throw a fannish party (a comment-fanwork fest or something) but I don’t know what kind of party! Things I like:

• People with disabilities being awesome! But I do the PWD Being Awesome fest for three_weeks_for_dw , which is just a few months away.

• Lost people being awesome! You guys, I would totally–totally--have a fest for characters with navigational impairments doing awesome things. And such a fest would be esoteric and self-indulgent enough to have on my birthday. But I don’t know most of them well enough right now to play properly. (Although I would REALLY love this to happen.)

• An art fest for people who cannot draw non-artists!

• Drabbles/drawbles/iconbles/wee podfics/tiny FSTs and other tiny fanworks!

• Ladies! Also, femslash!

• Cuddles!

• Ranma 1/2!

• Avatar: The Last Airbender!

• Video games!

• Coffee?

If one wished to write about someone with navigation impairment (it would probably be original, because I can't think of anyone in any of our shared canons that would count), where should one start looking for base info? *chinhands*

That's a good question!

Gettinglost.ca is the best place I can think of. The researchers are studying one specific type of navigation impairment (developmental topographic disorientation is the name of it), and the "Media" section has lots of different newspaper articles.

I once found a study that looked at how a group of people with navigational impairments following brain injury got around their communities (could they take the bus?, etc., etc.) but I can't find it now.

Ahahaha, that's okay! The biggest problem is that three_weeks_for_dw is so close, so I would feel weird having, say, a drabble/tiny fanwork fest. (I LOVE YOUR ANIME/MANGA/MANHUA/MANHWA DRABBLEFEST, OK?)

Actually, I think the real biggest problem is that "people with navigational impairments doing awesome things" is winning by a huge margin. Oh, dear. Perhaps I should start planning now and, say, think of/collect resources for people who would like them. (Sadly, most of what I can think of right now is Boring-Ass Science.)

Oh man, I never remember when three_weeks_for_dw is until someone else mentions it, heh! You could totally do a mini-fest anyway, though -- & you could mention it during 3W4DW as a way to revive it/keep it going even longer. :D

& eeeeee, the drabblefest was so much fun! Maybe I will try to do something like that again at some point? IDK.

I think some sciencey references about the navigational stuff could be awesome! (But only if they aren't onerous for you to compile.)
