Summary:

In which Toph has a(nother) life-changing field trip with a member of the Fire Nation royal family.

This was supposed to be the Epic (for Me) Story of How Azula and Toph Found Ursa. No, really. It was supposed to be 6,000 words. But it ended up being 3,000 words of Feelings and fistfights, because I don't even know how to find my own mother at the grocery store. And then I tried to have them find a MacGuffin Ursa's guqin, which was somehow in the Bei Fongs' possession so they had to rob Toph's own parents. (One of the things lizbee asked for was Azula as the Blue Spirit.) But then that was stupid: why wouldn't Toph's parents just give it to her?

Because I feel bad, here is something that got cut (mention of canon violence):

“I suffocated two guys in a metal box for trying to take me back to my parents,” said Bei Fong, picking her feet.

Even though it would mean nothing, Azula raised an eyebrow.

“They wanted me to be something else--my parents, I mean. Just to sit quietly and be a perfect lady and make them look good, I guess.”

“I’m sure you were a thorough disappointment,” Azula said.

“Um-hm. Especially when I joined the Av--I mean, Aang.”

Azula waved a hand. “Tiptoeing around me like my brother doesn’t suit you,” she said.

Bei Fong did not apologize, and that was good. Instead she said, “My parents didn’t think I could do anything. They...kept me hidden in the house.”

“Well, you do have an annoying tendency to destroy things,” Azula said.

“And you have an annoying tendency to kill people.”

“But I’ve never suffocated anyone in a metal box before,” said Azula. “Do you think someone found the bodies?”

“Huh. They’d have to get the box open first.”

For a friend of the Avatar, Azula thought, Bei Fong sounded awfully proud. It was the pride that made her ask, “So, what is metalbending like, then?”

“Like finding little bits of warm in the cold,” said Bei Fong after a little while.

Azula did not say that it sounded a bit like bending lightning: hunting the fire in the cold, jettisoning it, cutting it off from the protection of the air. (Such a weak and useless element, air. Of course Zuko was fond of it, swishing his dao blades all over the place.) What she said was, “And then you killed those people.”

“They deserved it, though. It’s not like I killed just any random person.”

“Neither have I,” Azula said. “Killing people without reason is reckless.”

“You killed the Avatar,” Bei Fong said.

“Of course. And I came home a war hero.”

“But you wanted to burn the Earth Kingdom to the ground.”

“Don’t you understand anything about military campaigns?” Azula asked. “With the Earth Kingdom decimated, we would’ve won the war. But it’s not like I would’ve killed you if we’d just met on the street. What would be in it for me?”

It was a long time before Bei Fong said, “I...guess.” Then she said, “Mind if I sleep in here? Your floor is better than mine.”

Azula thought. “If you like,” she said.

I also wrote treats! Treats are fun, as 1,000 words is kind of epic for me.

Summary:

The silences are Mai's favorite part of the game.

I love Mai, and her relationship with Azula fascinates me. However, Mai is also hard for me to write. (In the series, both Mai and Ty Lee have facial expressions that I tend to miss). I also love drabbles, especially for things I'm not confident writing. (If it's terrible, at least it's over soon.) I wasn't sure about this one, since pleonasm asked specifically for no cuckolding, and I...wasn't sure if this came across as cuckolding. In my head, Zuko's okay with it (local Gaang are all various shades of poly, just because it's more fun that way, and also, Katara can be with Mai and Toph at the same time), but wouldn't have understood that they were flirting.

Fellow fleet shipper glass_icarus asked for OTGaang last year. I finally had an idea this year. I wasn't sure if it had enough cuddles or too much perving. But it was fun!

Renovations (comic, Soul Eater, Marie Mjolnir & Death the Kid)

On the one hand, I'm very proud of this drawing, because I've never drawn an Anime Shock Face before, even with a model. But on the other hand....I've never drawn an Anime Shock Face before. I also learn something new with every drawing. This one's lesson was: 'Tis better to draw the white lines in Kid's hair in the coloring phase than in the sketching phase, you goofus."

Speaking of which, there was supposed to be a panel where they were like, "We're a god and a demon hammer. LET'S FIRE THIS DAY FOREVER AND HAVE TEA," but by that point I hated Kid's hair and vowed never to draw it again. *facepalm.*

The funny thing was, I didn't even guess my fic was from you! Because your stories are usually elliptical and introspective, and this had elements of that, but they were disguised. IT WAS VERY CUNNING INDEED.
