His smell is wrong.
A bird, a mouse before she pounces (dammit blair don’t leave dead birds ON MY BED); fish about to go bad. She stalks it, the smell (tomcat piss on stone, the pitchers of beer she serves at Chupa♥Cabra’s that always make her think of Daddy Albarn, half-digested food on his breath and all), and thinks of turning off speech altogether so she can ponder it.
Maka-chan’s body is slack, yet a butterfly with the powder rubbed off its wings. “This way,” she says, pointing at something fun to climb in. All their bodies, the rise and fall of their voices (Maka-chan’s especially) tell her there’s no fun to be had here. And she is Maka-chan’s and Soul-chan’s housecat, not his. So she follows her people through the vent, leaves not-her-people to do as they will.
Still, his smell is wrong.
