(Or: This is probably only a problem because I am terrified of letting my id run with this story. I would like to remind myself that I had no problem unleashing my id upon the world as violent zombie porn, and this is just h/c featuring Firebrats. But at least I wasn't in danger of DESTROYING THE ZOMBIES' CHARACTERS every five seconds).
Background: Aang/Katara/Mai/Zuko are together, in every permutation possible. It is also The Future.
At some point in this story I'm supposed to be writing, Azula asks Zuko something like, "Did my brother-in-law teach you to fish yet?" Naturally, Zuko thinks she means Sokka. But since Azula insults Zuko the same way she does everything else, she actually means "your husband, who is a vegetarian and doesn't believe in taking life." (Zuko will probably remind her that she couldn't catch a fish, either. Unless he wouldn't because he thinks she's ill and he can never compete with her ever again. Oh, post-finale!Zuko, you are so hard to write. Which is why I avoid you at all costs.)
The problem is, kinship titles aren't this vague in Mandarin. Aang would be "older brother's husband," and Sokka would just be...Sokka, I think. (He would probably actually just be "Sokka" in English, since he is Zuko's brother-in-law).
WOE.
