"I think that perfect people are not very interesting." --Rumiko Takahashi.

The most glaring message of my childhood was: We've never seen anyone like you before. My neurologist wrote as much in his report; my mother still thinks my brain is a fascinating artefact for science. The school system thought that if I had to be disabled, I should at least be disabled in a way they'd actually heard of. The teachers on recess duty thought that I was too old to be asking them to tell me where my friends were on the playground; one day when school got out early, the lady in the school office thought that "You only live three blocks away--you shouldn't bother your mother with calling her to pick you up." (My mother thought she was a jackass). And a few weeks ago I found someone who thought: "You are because you are, and that's all right."

Many, many spoilers for Ranma 1/2 )

My heart, it has exploded. I want epic fic of this RIGHT NOW. Super bonus points if a crossover with Journey to the West is involved.

Mousse and Ryoga: OTP forever

[Transcript: Ryoga and Mousse in hot springs, visible from the waist up, not wearing shirts, grabbing each other's hands and grinning and laughing.

RYOGA: "Excellent, if we work as a team how can we possibly get lost?"

MOUSSE: "It's the perfect partnership!"]

I wrote a squeetastic post about how Ryoga Hibiki is an Awesome Disabled Person (not that I'm biased because we share impairments or anything, or because Rumiko Takahashi portrays these impairments so fucking accurately and in ways that get right what "experts" frequently screw up), but I lost it. Ryoga would be proud--or maybe he'd just weep sympathetically. Oh, well. Have a poll.

Following other people is a very important life skill for me, and other people frequently take me places. While the two of us may lose each other (say, if they turn a corner or I stop to look at something), but we don't often get lost together. And yet, whenever Ryoga and Ukyo go places together (so far), they've gotten lost.  Ukyo is like: "You directionless jerk!", etc. Why doesn't Ukyo find their way? Or, you know, just leave him there?

Psst! Even if you're not familiar with Ranma 1/2, I want your opinion! Canon isn't particularly helpful, and anyway, I love you.

Why do Ryoga and Ukyo (and *only* Ukyo) get lost together?

The places they're in (an obstacle course, caves) are difficult for anyone to navigate, spatial impairment or no.

Ukyo's sense of direction isn't stellar, either, or she doesn't give very good directions, or both.
2 (50.0%)

Between Ryoga's arrogance/defensiveness and his Chivalry Reflex, he doesn't accept Ukyo's help.

Because it's funny, silly

What? And break the plot?

Something else I will explain in comments.

Should I (re-)write the "Ryoga is an Awesome Disabled Person" post, with references this time?
